Google Adsense

Adsense is Goolges Publisher Program whereby the publisher adds scripts to their webpages which indicates to Google to position and style of ad they wish placed on their site. Google then peruses the content of the page and matches individual ads to this content. This is known as 'Contextual Ads'

A quick overview from one of the most successful Adsense Publishers of all time, author of 'The Adsense Code', Joel Comm [3:32]

Build a site based on your passion and knowledge. Something you will be interested in building in 3-4 years. This can be a blog or a standard website.

People quickly sense you know what you are talking about. Getting Build the site first

  1. Original Content
  2. Traffic
  3. Adsense.

Until May 2007, "Adsense Sites" became an entity in their own right. 10-20 pages of crappy content with adsense. The purpose of these sites was to make the content barely sufficient to draw the right contextual ads, and in effect, force people to click on the ads to get any value at all.

Whilst these sites worked a charm for a couple of years, and several Internet Marketing 'gurus' made a fortune from doing and teaching this method - Google is currently stamping out these sites and cancelling the entire Publisher account.

The key is to Adsense is:

  1. find a niche you will enjoy being involved with and know you can contribute some genuine unique content
  2. compile a set of keywords - use Googles Keyword Tool
  3. build quality content, and consistently add to that content. Google knows how often you have new pages added.
  4. add to your content at least twice a week - you just can't do this yourself with 200 adsense sites
  5. build traffic to your site - with articles, link exchanges, forum posts, ppc
  6. monetise your site with good quality, related products and ads
  7. convert your traffic with targeted, contextual copy
