Google Adsense Glossay

Ad impression - whenever an individual ad is displayed on your website. Different ad formats have different ad impression values, for instance, a vertical banner will account for two ad impressions in your report.

Ad unit impression - every time a user views an ad unit on a page. For example, a page displaying three ad units that is viewed twice, you will generate six ad unit impressions and two page impressions.

Clickthrough rate (CTR) - the number of clicks an ad receives a click divided by the number of times the ad, ad unit, or page is displayed ][depending on the type of impressions ]

Cost-per-action [CPA]- the amount an advertiser pays when a user completes a certain action: registers, subscribes, requests information, downloads a .pdf etc

Cost-per-click [CPC] - the amount an advertiser pays each time a user clicks on an ad. This is the pricing system used by Google AdWords.

Effective CPM - the effective cost-per-thousand impressions (eCPM) used by publishers to compare revenue across different channels and advertising programs.

eCPM = Total Earnings of Page
  Number of Impressions [‘000]

Actual cost-per-thousand-impressions [CPM] - the amount an advertiser pays for each impression of an ad. The AdWords Discounter automatically gives advertisers the lowest possible price to maintain the ad's position.

Maximum cost-per-thousand-impressions - the maximum cost-per-thousand-impressions (CPM) an advertiser is willing to pay. The AdWords Discounter automatically reduces this amount to one cent more than the minimum necessary to maintain the ad's desired position on the page.

Invalid click or impression - Clicks or page impressions generated through prohibited means, intended to artificially increase click or impression counts on a publisher account. Google has technology to monitor this closely.
