Free Audio Editing Software
There are a number of extremely good, free software programs for
editing audio.
- Audacity - my personal audio software editor.
Available in PC, Mac and Linux versions. Record from microphone,
line input, or other sources. Can dub over existing tracks to
create multi-track recordings and record up to 16 channels at
once (with multi-channel hardware). Includes Level meters to monitor
volume levels before, during, and after recording. Free download

- Wavepad - many claim is easier to use than
Audacity. Avaialable for Windows, Mac OS X and Pocket PC. Add
effects like echo, amplification and noise reduction. WavePad
supports editing both wav and MP3 files in the free version as
well as a number of other file formats including vox, gsm, Real
Audio, au, aif, flac, ogg and more in the Masters version. Free

Commercial Audio Editing Software
- Sound Forge - published by Sony is very good
and easy to use. Soundforge 9 professional version is used for
high end digital audio production and includes everything you
need to publish audio from raw audio to finished master. Includes
CD Architect software. 30 day free trial available.
- Adobe Audition - high end professional use
formerly Cool Edit Pro.
