Recovering from Google Slap 2009
Another Google Slap to keep online markets and publishers in line.
This occurred around August 27th. The recent slap appears to have
targeted affiliates,
but Google has always aimed to keep prices low for smart affilates
that deliver quality content and quality publishers for Adsense
ads.
Some sites got lowered from a top score to a score of 1. This also
signfiicantly impacted online
marketing campaigns:
- Play by Googles rules - read the Adwords Terms and Conditions.
- Stay away from Flogs [fake blogs] and special offers - "Money
from Google"
Provide Value to Users - offer them something that a direct
link to the merchant site doesn't offer. A comparitive review, a
bonus report or other real value. Google can see through the lies
of Flogs. Offer your own experience or testimonials but make it
real.
Google Cash Offers and Google Money Tree Offers - offer
a kit for paying just shipping and handling. Shortly follwing, the
client will be billed $27-69 a month in recurring billing. This
is often very difficult to detect. These fraudulent adwords ads
leading to these products are not in line with Googles program.
So review all programs to ensure they are legitimate before you
sign up as an Affiliate. Users that have tried to cancel these billings
often find there are two rebills - one for a product and another
for a newsletter. Make sure you cancel both.
Slapping Back
If you find your legitimate site or campaign has been caught in
the Google Aug 09 slap you can recover by:
- Download and re-upload Adword
campaigns with a different campaign names and different landing
page URL.. Also change the ad slightly.
- Check the Google Adwords terms to make sure you comply
- Don't link directly to Affiliate sites - link to your own landing
page, with a buy buttong to the affilate. Google wants some added
value to users, rather than hundreds of campaign pages clogging
up the results and campaigns. Make your site larger than a single
review page or sales page. Add some articles or other related
information and products.
