Publish on Demand

Publishing on demand means that you only publish your book or digital media once it has been purchased. Hence it is done on a one at a time basis.

There are a number of publishers that offer this service, including Amazon.

My two favourites are:

  • Book Surge [ now owned by Amazon]
  • Lulu.com - a fantastic site with heaps of invaluable information on formatting, covers, and includes online publishing tools for books, photo albums, CD's. Also very useful cost calculator. Lulu also provide you with a free storefront and listing service to sell your book. A highly rated site.

Both of these sites offer services such as:

  • Prepublising paid services - editorial or graphics
  • Publishing online tools
  • Formatting guidelines for both print pages and cover
  • Cost calculators
  • Sales tools
  • Press Release guidelines
  • Marketing tips

ISBN Identification

If you are intending to go into the print version, you may like to consider obtaining an ISBN number. This is a 10-digit international number for your book that is used by all bookstores, libraries, publishers etc as your books unique identification.

R R Bowker is the exclusive US source of publisher prefixes and accompanying ranges of ISBN numbers for eligible publishers. For more information.
